Picture Day is tomorrow!

We made it through the first week!  Your kids are doing a great job getting settled in.  Over the next few weeks, we will start giving them more freedom to get to classes on their own in the mornings, etc.  We are still there though in case they forget where to go.  Small steps but they are learning fast!  As always, if you have questions, please give our office a call or contact your child's homeroom teacher.  

Parent Coffee last week:  Thank you to our LWPA for hosting the beginning of the year parent coffee last week.  It was very well attended and provided a great opportunity for parents to get to know each other and get any questions answered.  There will be more networking opportunities for this.  Watch the Blaze (parent e-newsletter) for updates.

Getting to school on time:  We know the time is a huge adjustment for all of you, parents included, so we are understanding as you take a few weeks to get the morning routines figured out.  We will begin counting tardies to school the week of September 12.  This gives you almost a month to get used to the time.  If you are in carpool, make sure you are there and dropping off by 7:25 at the latest.  Students are expected to be in homeroom and ready to begin at 7:30.

First Day of School!

Well...we all made it!  I must say this is a wonderful group of students.  They were so respectful today.  I'm very impressed.  Sounds like they all had a great day but I'm sure they are going to be tired tonight.  Have them practice memorizing their lunch pin #s and their locker combinations.  Those are two things that will take awhile to master but remembering them will help.  They will keep practicing locks every day until they can open it easily.

Don't forget tomorrow is the LWPA Parent Coffee in our commons starting at 9:00 am.  Please join us to hear about the LWPA, sign up to volunteer and meet some other parents.  Plus, who can't use a good cup of coffee in the morning??  And you might even get to see your child "in action" as they move around the school.  Hope to see you here!

The staff and student body also want to thank the LWPA for purchasing all of us new FGC t-shirts.  Your child will come home with a shirt today.  They loved them!  It was a great day to be a Dragon.

FGC Packet Pick-Up and Back to School Social Reminder

It's almost that time...  Is your child ready?  Or maybe you are more ready for them to get back to school!  Well, we are getting ready for them.  Our staff has been back since Monday and we have been busy in meetings and preparing our classrooms.  We are excited to meet them soon!

A few upcoming reminders:

• Packet Pick-Up-- Packet Pick-Up is tomorrow, August 11, from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm.  Only a parent may pick up the packet.  If you want someone else to get your child's packet, you must send in a handwritten note with that person. 
• You will not be able to access your child's locker tomorrow.  The homeroom teacher will have the lock and locker information for you at the Back to School Social.  This is a change from past years.  
• Also in the past, your child's music group determined who was in the lunch/recess group. This year we have changed that a bit to allow for students to meet more students during this social time AND for the team teachers to be able to work with their team students during Skills time.  Your child will have a Music Group (A, B, C, D) in their packet.  The homeroom teacher will give them their Skills Group (Air A, Air B, etc) on the first day of school.  Bottom line is your child will have two different groups that they will have at lunch and recess throughout the week.  Sound confusing?  That's okay.  Your kids will figure it out quickly and we will be there to help them!  

• Back to School Social-- Back to School Social is on Monday, August 15 from 2:30-4:00 pm. We know this is a short time in the middle of the day but we have to work around all the other school's back to school events.  At the social, you will be able to drop off paperwork, meet your teacher, get your locker and be able to put things in it and sign up for LWPA opportunities.  

• First Day of School-- School will start on Tuesday, August 16 at 7:30 am.  You should have received bus information already from the district.  Here's the link, just in case, or you can go to the district website at www.ladueschools.net.  If you are doing carpool, there will be staff outside to direct you.  Please plan to drop off between 7:15-7:25 so your child will have plenty of time and won't feel rushed.
